How to properly care for your BLVD Hair Extensions : Coily & Curly Bundles

Our curly textures require a more thoughtful and comprehensive hair care routine due to the unique structure of curly hair strands. Unlike other hair types, curls need extra attention and care to maintain their natural beauty. It's essential to have realistic expectations about the level of maintenance curly hair requires. Our curls behave similarly to your natural hair, so they need a regimen tailored to moisture and protein balance to keep them defined and healthy.

Curly hair tends to swell and expand, especially in humid conditions, because it's naturally more porous than straight hair. This means it absorbs moisture from the air, causing the curls to lose definition and, if neglected, potentially leading to tangling or matting. The key to healthy, beautiful curls lies in maintaining a consistent routine that focuses on hydration and nourishment.

By incorporating deep conditioning treatments and sticking to a regular haircare regimen, you’ll find that your curls become more manageable, soft, and less prone to frizz and breakage. With the right care, our curly textures will thrive and continue to enhance your look with every wear.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR PACKAGE

Upon receiving your bundles, you might notice a delicate scent, as a result of our signature wash and deep conditioning before shipment. Additionally, your curly hair may need some revitalization after being in transit to restore its true beauty. Please avoid running your fingers through your curly hair while it's dry, as this could lead to tangling and increased frizz. During the initial wefting process in bundle construction, you may encounter a few loose hairs during your first CoWash. This is normal and should diminish significantly after the initial washes. We anticipate minimal shedding each day when following a consistent haircare regimen. It's important to understand the difference between shedding and breakage.

PRE-INSTALLATION

Always wash your hair extensions before installation while leaving the zip-ties intact. This will allow you the opportunity to evaluate the bundles. If you detect any abnormalities kindly contact us immediately and we will resolve them accordingly.

INSTALLATION

Please refrain from piercing the wefts as this may affect the longevity of your extensions. Only cut your wefts when absolutely necessary as this may cause excess shedding. Although not required, you may seal your wefts using a high-quality weft sealant.

MAINTENANCE

As an overview for curly haircare, conditioner-only wash (CoWash) is recommended once per week. This is a non-negotiable step and essential for the best results.

CO-WASH STEPS:

  1. Before wetting your hair in the shower, use hair clips to divide it into 5-7 sections. This makes handling curly textures much simpler.
  2. Thoroughly wet each section of your hair while keeping them separated.
  3. Take one section at a time and apply conditioner, then use a detangling brush to work through the section starting from the ends. Detangling curly hair is most effective when done in sections.
  4. After detangling, leave the conditioner on for 15-30 minutes for a deep conditioning treatment.
  5. Rinse out each section thoroughly and use a detangling brush to define your curls.
  6. Thoroughly rinse out each section and use a brush or fingers to accentuate your curls.
  7. Follow up by scrunching each section thoroughly.
  8. After completing the washing process, scrunch each section with a cotton T-shirt. This step helps to set the coil shape and prevent excess water from dripping.
  9. After scrunching, sparingly apply glossing serum to combat frizz. For coarser textures, apply curl-defining and holding products. Please be mindful that excessive use of products may lead to buildup and eventually tangling and matting. If you are experiencing build-up, it is time for a co-wash.
  10. Allow your hair to air dry or sit under the dryer with indirect heat.
  11. If you are pressed for time during the drying process, use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment until it's at least 60% dry. The diffuser head helps minimize frizz and lock your curls in place. Alternatively, you can let your hair air dry.
  12. Avoid touching or disturbing the coils as they dry. It's crucial not to run your fingers through the hair while the curls are setting.
  13. Always use a heat protectant when heat styling to avoid damage. Keep in mind, that excessive heat styling can alter the original curl pattern and integrity of the hair (similar to your natural hair).

BEDTIME CARE/DAILY CARE

Before bedtime, tie your hair up in a high ponytail, pineapple, or braids/twists it into large sections, and cover it with a satin scarf or bonnet. This will preserve the curl pattern and minimize frizz while you sleep. When you're ready to style your hair in the morning, take out the ponytail or braids and spritz your hair with a mixture of water and conditioner to activate the leave-in product. Gently scrunch your hair and let it air dry. Avoid excessive handling as it may cause more frizz.
