How to properly care for your BLVD Hair Extensions : Straight & Wavy Bundles

When it comes to keeping your hair beautiful and healthy over the years, having the right care routine and setting realistic expectations is essential. At BLVD, we want every customer—whether you're new to raw hair extensions or just trying a fresh texture—to feel supported and empowered with knowledge. This is why we've put together this detailed guide to help you navigate the unique needs of our Straight/Wavy, Curly textures, and our luxurious Lace products.

Remember, BLVD extensions are made from raw human hair, which means they behave much like your natural hair would. Raw hair requires specific care and a bit more dedication to keep it looking its best, especially with higher-maintenance textures. Without the proper attention, you may find the experience doesn't meet your expectations.

We know how challenging (and sometimes overwhelming) it can be to find the right products and techniques that work for your unique hair type. That’s why our team has done the hard work for you by testing a variety of products and brands. Now, we’re excited to bring you our curated recommendations so you can make the most of your BLVD hair. After all, investing in high-quality hair extensions is about more than just the look—it’s about ensuring they last and continue to bring you joy with every wear.

PRE-INSTALLATION

Before installation, it's essential to always wash and condition your hair extensions while keeping the zip-ties intact. This allows you to inspect the bundles thoroughly. If you notice any irregularities, please contact us immediately, and we will address them promptly.

INSTALLATION

We advise against puncturing the wefts, which may lead to excessive shedding. Additionally, you may choose to seal your wefts using a high-quality weft sealant. Only cut your wefts when necessary.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE

Conditioner-only washing (Co-Wash) is recommended once a week. This helps keep your hair moisturized and regularly removes any buildup that could lead to tangling or matting. If your extensions require deep conditioning, we suggest using a rich deep conditioner with smoothing properties to reduce unwanted frizz. Here are the steps to follow:

Remember NOT to use shampoo on your hair extensions regularly, as it can result in dryness, tangling, and breakage. Instead, choose co-washing (using conditioner only) to keep the hair clean while maintaining moisture levels. Shampoos should be done in the salon with a stylist.

CO-WASH STEPS:

  1. Divide your hair into sections before showering or bathing.
  2. Use a wide-tooth comb or our favorite wavy hair brush to detangle each section thoroughly, starting from the roots and working toward the tips.
  3. Completely saturate your hair with water.
  4. Working from the bottom of your installation, use your fingers to part your hair and gather a 1-inch section, securing the rest of the installation on top of your head.
  5. Generously apply conditioner to the 1-inch section and brush through with a Denman brush, starting from the ends and moving up to the roots. Complete two passes with the Denman brush, ensuring thorough detangling from the top of the wefts to the ends.
  6. Repeat this process throughout your entire installation. By now, your hair should be completely detangled and have a good amount of slip from the conditioner. Twist your hair into a top bun or braid and let the conditioner sit for 15-20 minutes without massaging to avoid frizz.
  7. Rinse your hair thoroughly. For added waves, scrunch your hair to enhance the wave pattern or set it in rollers. Dry your hair using a cotton hair towel, microfiber towel, or t-shirt to minimize frizz caused by regular bath towels.
  8. Apply a moisturizing leave-in conditioner and allow your hair to air dry or blow dry and restyle as desired.

DAILY CARE

  1. Brush or comb through to style.
  2. Apply a light hair oil or hair serum for shine and frizz control as needed. Excessive product may lead to stiff hair which may cause matting and tangling. When the product has built up, it is time for a CoWash!
  3. Always use a heat protectant when heat styling to avoid damage. Keep in mind, that excessive heat styling can alter the original wave pattern and integrity of the hair (similar to your natural hair).

BEDTIME CARE

Before bed, apply a light hair oil to lengths and ends. Put hair into braids, twists, and heatless curlers, or wrap/roll to maintain a curl pattern or style. Apply a satin scarf or bonnet to reduce frizz and fly-aways. For bouncy waves, style with flexi-rods. After waking up, remove overnight protection and comb through using Our Favorite Hair Brush beginning at the ends and working your way up. Style as needed.
